Our Washington office opened in 1981 with three lawyers.  It has since grown to include 21 partners, 54 associates and 8 counsel practicing in the areas of telecommunications, litigation, environmental law, government relations and asset management.

Our Communications, Media & Privacy Department is one of the largest and most experienced in the industry.  Our Washington attorneys have been integrally involved in every major U.S. regulatory and legislative proceeding involving the telecommunications and media industries over the past 25 years.

The firm’s Litigation Department in Washington offers a full-service commercial litigation practice.  We handle an array of cases throughout the country and internationally before courts, administrative agencies, and arbitration forums.  Our Compliance & Enforcement Practice, which represents corporations, organizations, and individuals in civil and criminal lawsuits and investigations involving a wide variety of compliance and white-collar matters, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Alien Tort Statute, export controls, money laundering, bribery, fraud, and financial crimes.

Our Environmental, Health and Safety Department provides expertise on both a domestic and international basis to a wide range of clients in the areas of environmental counseling, transactional, legislative, and litigation services.

Our Government Relations Department advises and represents a wide range of U.S. and multinational clients in connection with legislation, congressional and agency investigations, regulatory matters, policy formulation, and government relations.

The Washington office's well-known Corporate and Financial Services Department focuses on asset management and represents mutual funds, investment advisors, broker-dealers, commercial banks, thrifts, and other entities in transactional, regulatory, and enforcement matters.  The office also represents retailers and other nonfinancial companies that have consumer credit, privacy, and similar financial services issues.

The office is located in the heart of the K Street corridor in downtown Washington, D.C., close to the centers of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the United States Government, before which our Washington attorneys practice.  The breadth of experience and expertise among our Washington office attorneys is, both national and international.  Many of our attorneys travel to court appearances, regulatory proceedings and related activities all over the United States, and the world, representing U.S. and foreign corporations.

The practice areas in the firm’s Washington office complement those in our New York, Paris, London, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, and Brussels offices to assure that Willkie can provide its clients with a wide range of legal services.  One of the hallmarks of the relationship between the Washington office and the firm’s other offices is the frequent cooperation between various practice groups in successfully orchestrating all of the pieces of complex matters.
