Willkie’s Tax Department expertly practices all types of business taxation issues, domestic and international.  Our tax lawyers work seamlessly with other firm practice groups in advising on corporate, partnership, financing and other transactions to deliver comprehensive tax solutions to our clients.  In addition, our tax lawyers are sought to advise independently on tax issues for innovative transactions. The Tax Department has six partners, seven associates and one special counsel in the New York office, and four partners and three associates in the Paris office.  We serve both small and medium sized enterprises to large, multinational corporations, including domestic and international hedge funds and those who invest in them.

Our tax professionals provide a broad range of tax services including acquisitions and divestitures, tax-free mergers, spin-offs, recapitalizations and other reorganizations, bankruptcy and insolvency restructurings, joint ventures, leveraged buyouts, financing transactions (including securitizations), new financial products, leveraged leases, employee compensation matters and general corporate tax advice.  Consistent with the growing internationalization of all business transactions, Willkie’s tax attorneys are experienced to support multijurisdictional tax matters and transactions because of our close working relationship with tax advisers from abroad.

Our tax lawyers regularly represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service and Treasury Department on matters involving advance rulings as well as tax policy issues.

Members of our Tax Department have held senior positions in the Treasury Department's Office of Tax Policy.  Additionally, our Tax Department includes a former Chair of the influential New York State Bar Association Tax Section.  Members of our Tax Department are also active in the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation, The Association of the Bar of The City of New York and the International Fiscal Association, as well as the Tax Clubs and the Tax Forum.
